Start With an Eye Exam
We often make time to visit the doctor or squeeze in a workout at the gym, but how often do we prioritize our eye health? Your eyes are your windows to the world, and just like the rest of your body, they deserve the same level of care and attention.
At Lakeside Eye Associates, we believe that eye health is essential—and our comprehensive eye exams not only ensure clear vision but also protect your long-term eye health.
Our Approach at Lakeside Eye Associates
We go beyond the standard in-and-out exams. Our approach is thorough and backed by the latest technology to give you the most accurate understanding of your eye health. We use advanced diagnostic tools like Optomap imaging, OCT scanning, and visual field testing to detect any issues early, ensuring we can address them before they affect your vision.
We tailor each exam to your needs, ensuring we do not overlook any aspect of your eye health. From identifying common vision problems to early detection of severe eye conditions like glaucoma or macular degeneration, you can trust that you are in expert hands.

Why Are Regular Eye Exams Important?
Regular exams can detect problems long before they show symptoms, allowing for early treatment and better outcomes. Whether it’s ensuring your glasses prescription is up-to-date or checking for signs of eye diseases, regular exams are vital for maintaining clear, healthy vision.
- Adults should get an eye exam at least every 1 to 2 years, depending on their vision needs and risk factors.
- Children should have their first exam around 6 months, again at age 3, and before starting school, followed by annual exams.
- Seniors (over 60) should have annual exams due to the increased risk of conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
If you wear contact lenses or have an underlying medical condition like diabetes, our optometrists recommend more frequent exams.
How We Examine Your Eyes
The team at Lakeside Eye Associates takes the time to ensure your exam is personal and comprehensive. We never rush our exams - we take pride in providing each patient with the detailed, individualized care they deserve.
We begin by discussing your medical history, lifestyle, and any concerns you may have so we can provide tailored recommendations and care. From there, we use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to conduct several key tests, ensuring your eyes are healthy and functioning at their best.
Visual Acuity Test
Measures how clearly you can see at various distances. This test helps determine if you need a prescription or adjustments to your current one.
Optomap Retinal Imaging
Provides a comprehensive, wide-angle image of the retina, allowing for early detection of diseases—all without the need for dilation.
OCT Scanning
A non-invasive imaging test that takes cross-sectional images of your retina. This helps detect signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other conditions.
Eye Pressure Test (Tonometry)
Measures the pressure inside your eyes, which is a key indicator of glaucoma. Early detection can prevent vision loss.
Visual Field Test
Assesses your peripheral (side) vision to detect any gaps or abnormalities. This test can reveal signs of eye disease or neurological conditions.
Refraction Test
Determines the precise lens prescription you need to correct your vision, ensuring you see as clearly as possible at all distances.
